Go Training

Share the good news of Jesus Christ with kids this summer!

If you’re in junior high, high school, or college and you’re looking for an opportunity to serve and teach others about Jesus, consider applying to become a local missionary to children through Go Training. Our training camp will disciple you as a follower of Jesus Christ, and train and equip you to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with children through Bible lessons, memory verses, songs and games with other teens from across North Dakota. Once you’ve completed Go Training training, you’ll then get sent out with other teen disciples of Jesus to teach Go Clubs in backyards, parks, and churches across northeast ND and northwest MN. Not only that, but you’ll get to spend a week serving kids at Camp Good News. Scroll down for more info!

Information about Go Training, Go Clubs, and Camp Good News

What are Go Clubs?

Go Clubs are our summer program for elementary school-aged kids. Go club gatherings typically run for four consecutive days (Monday-Thursday), and happen in backyards, public parks, or local churches. Each club is usually 2 hours long, with an hour-long lesson time, games, and a snack for the kids.

What will I learn at Go Training?

Everyone who attends Go Training first learns how to teach the Gospel to children. Once you’re at Go Training, you’ll learn to teach Bible memory verses and songs. Depending on your track, which you’ll be assigned by your local director, you’ll have other lesson curricula you’ll learn. Staff and leaders will work side by side with you to help prepare and equip you to teach in Go clubs.

Is CEF summer ministry a real job?

Go Club students 14 and older have the option to serve as either a volunteer or paid summer missionaries for each week they serve. While teaching Go Clubs is not merely a summer job, we believe that those who sow spiritual things through their service and preaching may reap material things (1 Cor. 9:5-11). However, we do require teens who wish to receive compensation to raise funds for this ministry, and encourage volunteers to do so as well. Your local director is happy to assist you in helping you write a prayer and fundraising letter.

How are Go Clubs scheduled?

Up to three clubs may be scheduled per day each week. Your local director will assign your weeks and teams, based on your summer availability.

What are the different tracks at Go Training?

In previous years, we had three different tracks at Go Training: Missionary, Bible Lesson, and Leadership. Some new components will be added this year, while other previously “standard” Go Training items will be changed, or even scrapped altogether. The intent is to make Go Clubs easier to modify and incorporate into customized timeframes (1-4 Day Clubs) and existing ministries, like VBS.

Where do I stay if I’m teaching a Go Club away from home?

If you’re traveling more than a close distance from your town to serve in CEF ministries, you’ll stay at host homes. All of our host families are trusted friends of CEF who have completed a CEF Background Check, and most have provided housing for Go Club students before. If you’re teaching in your hometown, you get to enjoy the comfort of your own home.

Do I have to serve every week?

Nope! All we ask is that you commit to a minimum of 3 weeks of Go Club service. You are free to serve every week but there is no obligation to do so. We recognize that you may have other jobs, family vacations, or camps that you attend, and we are happy to work around your schedule and availability.

And what about Camp Good News?

Camp Good News is a great place for kids (ages 8-13) to get to know Christ, have fun, make new friends, and grow in their faith. Go Training teens have the opportunity to serve at this camp as either service team members or camp counselors. For the Northeast chapter, Camp Good News will be held on August 4th-9th at Camp Joy in Dent MN.

Do I have to pay for transportation, food, or lodging during my scheduled weeks?

Out-of-town lodging is always provided. Out-of-town Go Club students stay with host families, who provide most meals. It’s always a good idea to have extra money along, though, to pay for your own snacks or if you need to make a fast food stop. Typically, CEF will provide rides from a central meeting area to the clubs. However, if you are part of a traveling team, a staff member or a team member will be the driver for the week. Don’t worry–we pick older, responsible students with good car skills. Drivers will be reimbursed for the gas they use.
